Beyonce on the Cover of Elle

So of course, I obsessively await new issues of magazines to hit my newstand. I have my picks for certain features too, but by far, Elle personally covers all of my bases. I was so excited to see "B", Beyonce, Sasha Fierce..whatever she decides, will do; grace the cover of the magazine. The article was well written and we almost got a little more personal with Beyonce. Everyone knows she's very private and I can definitely respect that. Talking about respect, I so respect stylist Joe Zee who is a phenomenal stylist and creative director over at Elle. He styled the Beyonce spread and did such a fabulous job. We will give both Joe Zee and Beyonce a special "Stylista of the Week" spot.
"Style Personality"
On Beyonce's style: Classic pieces adorned with funky accessories but overall she'd rather stick to lady like dresses and slacks. Rather be seen not heard.
On Sasha Fierce: "Glam Queen". She takes risks. She's all woman and not afraid to show it. She brags, curses, and wants everyone to know she's that b@#$%.

Style Stalker

Her vocals may be up for debate... I bet she's thinking about that 106 & Park performance too. Her style, I must say, is something to watch. As a model and a naturally beautiful girl, Cassie does know a tad bit about style. I don't think I've seen a "don't" from her on the red carpet or even candid pictures.

Innovative Designer

I think most fashionistas love accessories. But for myself, I think it's such a treasure to find a jewelry designer who makes handcrafted pieces...it's designed from the heart and soul. Barbara Campbell is just that type of designer. "The Barbara Campbell Collection is simple and elegant, and handcrafted in NYC with the finest materials and the utmost attention to detail and quality...the collection allows you to stay current unique and fresh by simply creating one of a kind feminine designs especially for you".

She makes belts, chain hoops, pendants and much more that have been seen on news anchors and more. Definitely, a great contributor to this "society". Take a look at the Barbara Campbell Collection.

Influence

Who would have thought the little girls from Full House would someday be influential to the fashion industry? Well, they are; with clothing lines such as Elizabeth and James, The Row and a jewelry line sold exclusively at Shopbop and now recently Influence. These girls are great businesswomen running billion dollar companies and doing what they have a true passion for...fashion.
Influence, is a great coffee table book with intimate interviews of their influential icons. On my recent trip to the book store, I picked up Influence and was quite pleased and inspired. I think by far the greatest interview was with Diane von Furstenberg. I couldn't get enough and neither could Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. The book is filled with art, great fashion photography, and the girls even interviewed each other. It would be a great Christmas gift for a fashionista.

What's the BIG Secret?

It's not much of a BIG secret anymore...I eagerly await the Victoria Secret Fashion Show every year. The show is filled with so many girly things like angel wings, rhinestoned runway, diamond lined lingerie and sexy performers. This year's show was filmed at the FountaineBleau Miami Beach. Be sure to check it out it airs tomorrow Dec 3rd @ 10/9c on CBS. Of course, it features Vicky Angels and Usher.

Here is a video of last year's show!!

I am so looking forward to seeing Heidi Klum. She is one of my inspirations not just because she is beautiful might I add she has kids you guys and looks fabulous. But she is now Heidi, Inc. I recently picked up the recent InStyle magazine in which Heidi graced the cover. She dishes about being a businesswoman, wife and mother, secrets to success, and so much more.

Style Inspiration | Such a Lady

As we go through phases in life, our style should transition also. One thing I hate to see is a woman dressed like a teeny booper. So my style inspiration this morning is Tracee Ellis Ross. On the set of Girlfriends or on candid pictures her style remains classy. Her wardrobe consists of great dresses with flowy lines and delicate fabrics that accentuate her "grown woman curves". She adds a little bit of funk with accessories such as bangles and great exotic bags.

Tracee Ellis Ross Style Steals
1. Great tailored pencil skirts
2. Jersey dresses with exotic prints or florals
3. Statement bags clutches & colored leathered totes such as teals or reds
4. Eye Catching heels to add an edge to a classy dress
5. Confidence! Embrace your womanhood

Let's Prove them Wrong

So all of my Glamouristas & Fashionitas in the Memphis area....whether male or female.....I have a special favor to ask. I have recently been in a debate with a friend of mine in New Orleans who seems to think...We have no sense of style in Memphis. I disagree. My argument was however there are few people in the city with "personal" style.

If you have time please upload just one picture of yourself with one sentence describing your personal style. Send them to highsocietygroup@gmail.com subject: I got style. Thank so much.

Playing Dress Up

Sorry I've been M.I.A. for awhile but I have plenty of good reasons. The current state of the economy has me working overdrive. But you can't have all work and no play. I have found the best "game" ever...VIRTUAL DRESS UP. It's polyvore.com. You can build virtual looks on line or sets as the industry calls it. Look at the look I just made this morning.

The Secret Life of A Style Junkie....

In this thing called life, we sometimes get bombarded and continuously reminded of the things we don't have. We don't have that Porsche or Benz we've dreamed of or that loft in downtown Manhattan. Rarely do we stop and remind ourselves of the things we have, love, and the simple things we can't live without.

Talking girl talk with my best girl...mom.Playing with Ali. Playing dress up. Listening to Frankie Beverly and Maze. Laughing until I cry with my dad. Adoring a bad pump in Vogue. Buying a bad pump from GoJane instead. Eating. Watching Style Network. Running on a hot summer day. Enjoying Memphis for what she is. Drinking chocolate milk. Putting on a nice dress. Going nowhere in my nice dress.

I stop and think about all the things I absolutely love on a constant basis. It's a reminder that when I reach that level of success, there are things that I LOOOOOOVED before that will keep me humble and satisfied. I am passionate about those things such as I am for fashion.

Fashion and style is something I have always loved. I can't remember a time when I didn't. I have never fallen out of like or love with it. It's what keeps my heart beating. My soul grounded and connected to the true essence of why I was giving the loan of life.

Shoe Fetish

I <3 SHOES!!!!! I recently picked up US Weekly's Fall Style Special and turned the page and immediately found yet another shoe in which to crave for. I know I had to have it....in my dreams. It was a nut bolted green suede Mary Jane stilleto by a designer who I had never heard of... Ruthie Davis. I had to find out who this chic was because to design a shoe like that you had to be FABULOUS. So here she is Ruthie Davis.......

She is a hip designer who loves fashion, design, art and comics. Her shoes have been on the feet of soooo many celebs such as Beyonce who absolutely loves rocking Ruthie Davis shoes, Avril Lavigne, Kim Kardashian, Jenny McCarthy, Cassie, and more.

But here's the shoe......
Yup right there.

Barack n Roll

So last night, I watched the 2nd in a series of 3 presidential debates. Of course, Barack Obama did an excellent job letting the nation know why he is the best candidate for our country. So as promised, I found some more Barack Obama gear. Jump on the band wagon if you already aren't and support our next president.

This is by far one of my favorite clothing lines supporting Barack...it's Barackawear. The sibling team Lorielle and Brandon Broussard started this dream with only $740 dollars and a passion in August of last year. They have everything from women's tees, men's hoodies, accessories such as notebooks, dog tshirts, and more. Check out the online store at www.barackawear.com

Behind the Style | Inspiration

Everyone knows I am a huge fan of Glam God with Viviva Fox especially my girl Tigerlily. She is an absolute inspiration both as a stylist and some of you may not know a designer. The Cayman Island transplant who has a background in fashion and finance is always well poised and her style transcends into her designs.
Crown Atelier launched in 2005 with great classic pieces, very feminine yet sexy. The collection is self described as a merge between delicate looking fabrics with silhouettes that have a certainty of strength and cool avant garde.
In a very short period of time, the looks have been seen on some of Hollywood IT girls such as Taryn Manning, Kierra Knightley, Hollywood Access hosts, and more.
Check out the collection at www.crownatelier.com .
Sidenote: I soooooo want Tigerlily to win! As a stylist, it's refreshing to see someone add class, sex appeal, and not "costumey". As a designer, her collection which is inspired by the design greats Yves Saint Laurent and Coco Chanel, that itself is inspiration.

If only I was a kid again.....

Do you remember the days of waking up super early on Saturday morning, eating a bowl of cereal, and watching your favorite cartoons? Well, this past weekend I indulged in a little pasttime...cartoons. I had no idea of what they were but it was just so cute. I wonder what it would be like to jump in a time capsule and go back to those days. We could just ask Kidada Jones!!!

Kidada hosts "Kidada for Disney party"

She gets paid big bucks to play with cartoons and make a childhood like imagination so cool. As designer for Kidada for Disney Couture, consultant on Disney projects, designer for a line of clothing and jewelry for adults sold at boutiques.

For those who don't have a clue who this chic is.....She is the daughter of music mogul Quincy Jones. She started as Tommy Hilfigers muse, designer for Snoop Dogg's former clothing line and a former student of L.A.'s Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. Her signature style is taking cartoon characters like Winnie the Pooh and Tinkerbell and putting them in fresh Air Jordans or shell toe adidas. We all know there had to be a big break....She sent her friend Nicole Richie an ironed on image of Alice in Wonderland on a tshirt and you know where it went from there....straight to the top.

Here some of her pieces from Kidada for Disney....Go to regencies.com or boutiquetoyou.com if you would like to purchase them.

I'm not a "know it all" but what I do is.....

I'm kinda getting irritated with all the people who are now designers....designing Obama tshirts. While I will announce my support of Barack here on my blog, I am bombarded by the slew of people with homemade Tshirts, airbrushed tees, and all sorts of ridiculousness. But just when "it" gets on your last nerves, something refreshing comes your way...."Runway for Change". A bunch of fashion designers have counted Obama in & designed cool graphic tees and tote bags supporting the "man for change".

Proceeds for the sales are donated to the Obama for America Campaign. Shop online @ http://store.barackobama.com Click on Runway for Change.

I love art and quality work so now that I am on this kick...I am seeking out real artists and designers making some hot Obama gear.

Decade

Not many people in the fashion industry can say they hit the pivotal moment of celebrating 10 years of doing what they absoulutely love. Kimora Lee Simmons can now scream out loud and fashionably celebrate 10 years of designing and fashion shows. So during this year's fashion week she dubbed the show as "Decade". Kimora's got it right the first time back in; finding her target demographic & mixing hip hop culure with fashion couture. Now as a fashion mogul, author of Fabulosity, and creative direction of Phat Fashions, Kimora is able to enjoy living her passion.

Check it out the video from the Decade. The pieces in this collection were an eccletic mix of 60s fashions, rompers, maxi dresses, and great pastel colors.

Fashionista Friday on a Budget

Fashionistas can look fabulous on a budget. Lauren Conrad star of the Hills always looks pretty chic of course so... she's a designer and works for "The Fashion PR Firm" The People's Revolution so style is innate. It can be for us Fashionistas on a budget too.

This look didn't take too much time because I went straight to the store in which I KNOW I can find pretty cheap pieces that are trendy...Forever 21. The key piece is THE FALL TREND...PLAID. Of course rock it out with some great accessories...I suggest adding alot of rings and a necklace.

I'm having a 90s moment....

I was watching videos early the other morning on VH1 and I had a 90s moment screaming to the top of my lungs and dancing because my favorite band was BACK!!! Yes, New Kids on the Block is back LMAO. They have a new single, album, and of course a new video featuring NeYo directed my Benny Boom (my fav video director). The single is hot and all of my boyfriends look so good. Joe is the main boo though. You know I had to check out the styling. TheY look GREAT with tailored suits, button downs but you could see each personality. The chics in the video looked classy with very cute cocktail dress and makeup & hair was definitely on point. Oh with that being said about men's styling...very soon my very good friend and men's stylist will contribute to the blog. Fellas, I do listen when you say you need some men's tips. But check out the video and let me know who your boyfriend was in NKOTB.

As promised

Thanks to Youtube, I was able to catch highlights from the first few days of Fashion Week. Here are a few designers... I will definitely be back later to blog about Tracey Reese, Daine von Furstenberg, Heatherette, and more.

BCBG Max Azria Spring 2009

The choice of colors and flowy fabrics was genius. I absolutely loved the tailored rompers. Such classic and elegant styles with a touch of sex appeal. BCBG Max Azria knows how to dress a woman.

Rock & Republic Spring 2009

We all know Rock & Republic for the jeans and graphic Tshirts built on celebrity lifestyle and music; defining pop culture. R&R celebrities fave jean designers have stepped out of their box and added tailored pieces such as pencil skirts, super skinny jeans, and classic button up blouses. The choice in fabrics and attention to detail solidified the movement from rock star apparel to couture designs. Dont' get it twisted they kept it funky with edgy leather pieces and mini dresses. Kudos for them for the fashion maturity. Oh yeah and of course the house was packed with celebrities like Mary Kate Olsen

Miss Sixty Spring 2009

Miss Sixty brought a great show. Loved the production and stage!!! The collection was hippie & party girl inspired with flowy fabrics with lots of prints, color, and accessories. The trends for the Spring was definitely set at Miss Sixty lots of colors and prints.

Fashion Week NYC

OMG, it's finally here...Mercedes Fashion Week in NYC. For all of us who have a passion for fashion and those of us who actually go to Fashion Week and cover all of the shows anxiously await "THE WEEK OF THE YEAR". Fashion Week is the time when both headlining designers like the Versaces, Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, and Betsey Johnsons and aspiring Ellie Owens and such come to show the fashion world what they have. Fashion Week is full of surprises as we all await the trends for the new season. I myself love to watch Fashion Week a la television to catch the beauty trends, the forecasts for the must have frocks and colors, and catch a glimpse of what celebrities and socialites will have the privilege of sitting front row.

Style.com previewed Fashion Week 2009 with some of its expectations and our hometown skillet Justin Timberlake for William Rast is expected to give an awesome show and be the next L.A.M.B in fashion design.
Style.com says that Justin & Trace (BF & business partner) are expected to be one of fashion's legitimate celebrity designers just like Gwen Stefani who has grossed beaucops of coins launching L.A.M.B.
Style.com expects for alot of new fashion designers who have recently graduated from Parson's and FIT to be the next in line and carry the torch. I can't wait to see the backstage footage, runway shows, and more. My goal is to be there next year, whether it's interning backstage or covering the shows in some aspect we shall see. I hope you enjoy it too. I will definitely be back to tell all of you my thoughts on the week.
