High Society Living

I'm back.... It's Thursday and I am counting the hours until the weekend. The weekend is the time to let your hair down and enjoy LIFE. I have a few ideas in mind for you this weekend. Moody Inc. always gives us a fab nightlife experience...Check them out both Friday & Saturday.

If you wanna stay in plan a "Girls Nite In" with some of your best chic friends. Make a gourmet pizza together, bottle of Pinot Grigio maybe or you can have fun mixing up some martinis. I found a cool website www.martiniart.com. A great resource is cute and fun. You can order everything from books on the history of martinis to girls nite out novelty items. A girls fav martini has to be a Cosmo so I pulled the recipe from the site.
Ingredients
4 ounces of freezing Skyy or Stolichnaya vodka.
1 ounce of refrigerator chilled Cointreau.
1 ounce of Absolut Citron vodka.
2 orange rind twists.
2 very, very thin orange slices.
1 lime cut in half.
3 ounces of cranberry juice.
1 ounce of pomegranate juice.
2 ounces of Naked orange juice.
4 drops of Amaretto.
The mix
Fill a glass shaker (we suggest a Boston style) 1/2 full with cracked ice.
Turn on your hi-tech stereo system and impress your guest(s). Maybe some Fergie, Beyonce, Gwen Stefani. Into your shaker, pour your vodkas and cranberry juice.
Give the shaker a good ten or fifteen shakes.
Add your Cointreau, pomegranate juice and orange juice.
Squeeze in the juice of half a lime.
Another twenty (thirty if you are up to it) shakes.
Strain your beautiful cocktail into two frozen cosmo or martini glasses.
Each drink gets 2 drops of Amaretto.
Gently float a slice of orange on top of each drink.
On top of each orange, delicately lay a rind twist.
Take a breath and be prepared to make more...it's a given.

Enjoy yourself this weekend. Live Life.
xoxo,
Andrea Fenise

Q: Are leggings still a "do" for the new season? -Sarah Nashville, TN

A: Hey Sarah, I'm glad you asked. I love leggings because they are so comfy and you can layer them, wear them with a graphic tee, or dress them up with a nice blouse. But the ballerina inspired leggings are sooo over. Lindsay Lohan, Queen of the legging trend, launched a new line of leggings with details, zippers, buttons, knee pads ( Yes, knee pads) to prelude the trend for leggings this upcoming fall which is....DETAILS & PRINTS.

From left to right: black leggings with knee pads ( not sure about that one), black leggings with zippers on side, metallic stirrup leggings

American Apparel has done a great job reinventing the legging and making them oh so fashionable.

Try this high waisted faux denim leggings with a nice peasant blouse or a cute graphic tee. It will set you back only $46.

Brown cropped placket legging with button details.

Red print jersey legging will look hot with a edgy black blouse and great boots for the fall.

High Society Living

Good morning beautiful people,
I have been working my little tail off for the last few weeks and of course it's not going to stop anytime soon. I am in need of a mini vacation but of course work has to be done. So for you chics that are able, take the time to travel this weekend or very soon. Traveling is an opportunity for you to experience other cultures, lifestyles, and of course street style. Yes even in the United States of America traveling to different cities will broaden your horizons. Turning around around and around BAM New Orleans ( ok I was turning at the map for some of you that didn't get it). New Orleans is by far one of my FAV cities to visit. I recently went this past October and really enjoyed myself. So let me be your travel agent & personal concierge.....For you chics that are in Memphis, PLEASE take the time to go by rail...Amtrak...it's such an amazing experience.

Transportation:
The Historic 59 from Memphis to New Orleans has such great history behind it. Back in the day, 1920s, many African Americans rode the train from New Orleans up to Chicago and they stopped in Memphis. Both Memphis and New Orleans have very rich history behind the Migration ask the conductor to tell you the story.

Visit www.amtrak.com for booking and details...They run specials all the time and the fare is STUPID cheap...only $88 round trip can't beat it. Have breakfast in the dining car, bring your laptop or DVD player and just relax.

Hotel:
I love staying in the JW Marriott on Canal St. They have exceptional service, very good concierge, and SUPER nice rooms.

Food & Drinks:
It's the BIG EASY baby so just walk around and have a great time. Be sure to go to Cafe Du Monde and have a beignet & cafe au lait. Breakfast at Mother's....OMG it was so good. It's a local's spot (best places to eat in cities) Drink on Bourbon 2 for 2 Hurricane's are the lick.

Tourism:
Please take the opportunity to go on a tour of the city. It's very informative especially after Katrina. Then learn about the history of New Orleans ( I won't tell you you will appreciate a lot more. Go on the City Tour ask the concierge at your hotel to book it for you. Great tour guide.

Fit & Fab

Hey chics & gents,
Today is Fit & Fab Wednesday and I specifically chose to blog about being fit & fab on Wednesday because it's Hump Day. Hump Day...half way through the work week and you need a little push over the hill. Well for some reason, I need a little well alot of push in my fitness regimen. I don't know what's wrong with me but I don't want to work out. I chose to blog early this morning before I run, let's hope I get out there today. I have to get motivated. Motivation comes from so many angles and I was looking through one of the gossip magazines yesterday and I was so amazed with the Russian Heel-A-Thon. Kelly Ripa from Live with Regis & Kelly collaborated with Dr. Scholl's for a charity High Heel-A-Thon in New York. Women in NYC came out in big numbers to race in high heels if that's not Fit & Fab...I don't know what is. Here are some pics:

Kelly Ripa stretching. Those are some bad shoes chic.

They are focused

Now this was hilarious. Take note... guy in the red perfect stride & guy in the white broke his heel but it's not stopping him at all.

If you need a little push with your diet, Michelyn has a great tip today.
Whole eggs vs. Egg whites

A lot of us are use to eating whole eggs. That's what mother use to make and whole eggs are usually served for breakfast at the fast food and dine-in restaurants. A lot of us look at eating eggs as a way to increase our protein intake; we don't think about all the fat and cholesterol we are consuming. As a child I only liked boiled eggs and I would just eat the yolk. My mother would tell me "girl you better eat the white part that's where the nutrition is"; I never understood her until I got older. When I started dieting I learned that egg whites were healthier for you. I didn't know the true facts; I just knew it was healthier and I needed to eat them to loss weight and cut down my fat intake.
After reading an article online from http://behealthyandrelax.com/2007/11/egg-whites-vs-whole-eggs/, I learned about the nutrition facts of whole eggs and egg whites. I just wanted to share them with you guys.

Egg Yolks:Calories: 55 cals Fat: 4.5 g Saturated Fat: 1.6g Cholesterol: 210 mg Protein: 2.7g

Egg Whites:Calories: 17 cals Fat: 0.1 g Saturated Fat: 0.0 g Cholesterol: 0.0 mg Protein: 5 g

As my mother always says, "Once you know better you should do better"; Let's cut our calories, fat, and cholesterol by eating more egg whites and less whole eggs. You can purchase the egg white liquid from any grocery store.

Hey Chics,

Sorry I've been missing for a couple of days. I've been so busy that well... enough of the excuses. Okay, reading is fundamental chics. For us women, this subject matter is super important to me. Financial Power, Knowledge, and Freedom. More and more women are running business, investing, obtaining material things that were once what we acquired after jumping the broom. For this special edition, I would like to invite you to join me in reading Suze Orman's "The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous, & Broke".
It is a really helpful book and for those of who are interactive, hands on learners it's very resourceful. I'm in NO way a finance guru but I will leave you with some helpful tips for managing money.
1. Pay yourself first. When you get a check or gift, ALWAYS pay yourself at least 10%.
2. Shop for deals. Don't pay full price for something if you haven't shopped around.
3. COUPONS! COUPONS! COUPONS! I think I am obsessed with clipping coupons. They really come in handy.
4. Pay bills on time. Late fees are so unneccessary.
5. Ok if you are a budgeting type of girl, write down all of your expenses and get them paid. Envelope systems really work for me, may not work for you. Expenses such as gas, food, and entertainment...place the money in envelopes when it's gone it's gone. Don't go to the ATM until you get paid again.
Hopefully, this works and you will have money to buy that big ticket item and feel good about it too.
xoxo,
Andrea Fenise

Q: I am going to an All White party this weekend. I don't have a clue where to start. Please help me time is running out.

A: Hey chic....CALM DOWN!!! There are a few options online. You may have to add a few more coins to the purchase but I think it's worth it. Not sure if I would get on foot looking seeing you are already stressed. So, I have a couple of pieces in mind.

Let's start with some very affordable pieces to ease your little mind :) Tiered knit dress 33.99 www.gojane.com Add a fly shoe spicing it up with some color will definitely take you there.

A classic wide leg pant and a ruffle top is simple chic! But be sure to funk it up with a fabulous clutch and manicure with a dash of color...I love OPI colors so be daring go for a pink/blue/yellow.

Shopbop.com is one of my favorite places to shop online. They know that chics like you are looking for special items so they created a shopping category just for WHITE DRESSES. I picked a few of my favorites that were easy to dress.

Hope you have a great time!! Take lots of pictures.

Fashionista Friday

At 21, most young chics are only thinking of a couple of things parties, drinking, and boys. Meet Tatiana founder of Culture Shock Magazine, designer for Immer Voran Clothing, TV junkie, and a serious sneaker junkie. Tatiana is in her CEO mode at a very young age; bringing innovative.creative.stylish ideas to the industry. High Society sits down with "Tot" and talks about her current projects, what she can't live without, and her favorite TV show.

Q: High Society is defined as a feeling of euphoria & the prominent people, fashionable people in their social life. What about fashion gets you "high"
A: The colors, the fabrics and the lifestyle as far was where I'm wearing the clothing to.

Q: What are some of the current projects you are working on?
A: I'm currently working on my biggest campaign yet, Project Re-Launch which is the re-launching of my magazine Culture Shock Mag. I feel like there was more that needed to be covered and so much more to expose our readers to. I am also working on my new television show, Culture Shock Mag Presents Road 2 New York Fashion Week, which will be on the MTTV channel this fall and on the website. The show will follow fashion editor, promotions director, and I as we make our journey to this past Fall 2008 Fashion Week. We will also be attending Fashion Week in September so we'll be taping then as well.
Q: Immer Voran & Culture Shock are very innovative and cutting edge projects what inspired you to launch the two at such a young age?
A: Thank you that's exactly what I wanted it to be innovative and cutting edge! But I'm the only child and I always kept myself busy I honestly feel like my purpose in life is to inspire people, whether it be through fashion or me talking about what's current I felt like I had to. As far as Immer Voran (means Always Ahead), I felt there was something missing in fashion and I wanted to be that missing piece. Culture Shock the television show, I felt that television was getting boring and when I was younger I used to create little shows in my room so it was only right the first opportunity I get to create a show. The magazine, was started from me blogging, updating people on the latest in music, fashion, culture, events, gossip and then my opinions of it all. But I wanted my age group to have more of a voice as well and I wanted to get everyone reading again so I started the magazine and later the student organization, Culture Shock Mag Society of Middle Tennessee State University.
Q: As a young fashionista, what or who defined style for you?
A: I would say colors and shapes define style for me. I wear items that don't match at times but if it compliments my shape I'll wear it. I love colors and I love new styles.

Q: 5 pieces/items you absolutely can't live without
A: A pair of cute stilletos, chuck taylors, an American Apparel dress(b/c I can always make it look different than the last time I wore it), sunglasses, and a huge bag!

Q: "Yea, last time I saw you at MT's homecoming I was wearing an American Apparel dress you were like who's that chick wearing my AA dress. I love American Apparel. You can get your "Break Thru" in there. So, Fashion Rules you live by
A: Never say I would never wear that because one day you may consider it! :-)

Q: What is one thing you want people to know about Tatiana
A: I'm excited about life, I'm a workaholic and i love Diddy and the Golden Girls!

Models be sure to go to the site for additional information about the model search. http://www.cultureshockmag.com/shockmag.com

High Society Living

Ok Chics if you all know me during conversations and those Myspace surveys like "Who would you love to meet" or "Who is one person you would love to eat dinner with" type questions...My first; without any thought, answer would be "my angel" Grandmother Dorothy. I never had the opportunity to meet her because she died when my dad was about 16 years old. However, I feel so connected with her spiritually that it is almost scary. My Granny was such a beautiful woman and of course the epitome of a classy woman. Let me toot her horn for her.....wife, mother of three children, nurse, talented seamstress, and president of the homemakers association. During those times, president of the homemakers association was a big thing! Women took pride in being beautiful and domestic. So ladies in honor of my grandmother, I bring to you High Society Living. A weekly feature that gives you chic and simple entertaining tips, recipes, cocktail ideas, home decorating ideas, and more.

Ladies before we start, there is nothing wrong with being intelligent, goal oriented, fly and Martha Stewart-ish or Dorothy-ish :)

Dinner for Two or Maybe Just You (that's fine girl)
Roasted Lemon Pepper Chicken, Potatoes, and Asparagus (Yes it's my original recipe)
You will need a roasting pan that comes in grill packages or just go to the kitchen section of your favorite store.

1 whole chicken
1 onion
1 green bell pepper
1/2 stick of butter (it's not as bad as it sounds)
Lemon Pepper Seasoning
Meat Tenderizer
Season Salt
Ground Black Pepper

1. Thoroughly clean chicken. Be sure to clean the inside of the chicken also. Yes, you have to get in there. Don't be afraid. Dry it off with a towel. Preheat your oven to 375F.
2. Stuff the onion and bell pepper inside the chicken...You may need to cut them in half to get them inside. Now sit the chicken on the roasting pan.
3. Okay now take the butter and rub the chicken down with the butter. It gets a little messy but just wash your hands.
4. Season the chicken to taste. Don't be afraid that you will over season. It needs it to add flavor.
5. Cook the chicken for about an 1:15 to ensure it cooks well.

Potatoes & Asparagus
Potatoes: I love Betty Crocker's Instant Garlic Mashed Potatoes. Grab a box of those & follow the directions. It's super easy so you can't mess them up.
Asparagus: You can either use fresh asparagus or canned. Let's go for the can for simplicity purposes.
1. DON'T DRAIN THE LIQUID OFF THE ASPARAGUS. It will retain the flavor when cooking.
2. Place about 2 teaspoons of butter in a skillet and allow the butter to melt on medium heat.
3. Sautee the asparagus in the skillet and sprinkle some lemon pepper seasoning on the asparagus. Allow them to soften but don't overcook.

Voila you have a nice meal for you and your boo or just yourself. Be sure to present it well. Pour your favorite glass of wine (I love White Zinfandel or Pinot Grigio with this dish) Hope you enjoy it. Let me know.

xoxo,
Andrea Fenise

Fit & Fab | Michelyn

Q: Should you take multivitamins to take up the slack for not always eating healthy? I know I don't get my fruits & veggies in everyday!!!!

A: Multivitamins vs. natural foods I'm a huge fan of incorporating multi-vitamins into your daily diet. I believe the average person is not going to consume all of the nutrients their body needs by just eating food alone. We live in a fast pace world; we are not always going to have time to put the right nutrients into our body's. I don't believe you can solely depend on multi-vitamins; you must also have a healthy diet. After researching this topic, I found that "researchers have not yet identified all the biologically active components in food. Believe it or not there are hundreds if not thousands of various substances in foods, such as phytochemicals, that are advantageous. Therefore, you can never get the full benefit of "good food" into a pill" (Griffin, 2008). Dr. Griffin believes that one should check with their doctor or nutritionist for the best way to assess what nutrient supplementation may be advantageous to them individually. Dr. Griffin recommends a low to moderate dose of multi-vitamin (Griffin, 2008). She also stated that one should remember that this should not replace a healthy diet (Griffin, 2008). In short, multi-vitamins are great, but you should still maintain a healthy diet. There is no way vitamins call completely replace food, at least not right now.

Break Thru Tuesdays

OMG I had a wonderful Fourth of July weekend...I watched the fireworks it was cool. Ate some BBQ it was GREAT thanks daddy. Road trip with Superman :) Finished making these denim leggings FINALLY and they are hot too. They will definitely be one of the hot pieces in the style studio. Getting back into the groove of things was kind of a drag. But this new feature Break Thru kinda has me jittery and anxious. I am a very frugal fashionista and I'm always on the prowl for that break thru. What is a break thru you ask???? Wait a sec, I heard you.

BreakThru: [adj] that shopping moment when you get a deal that you know just shouldn't be real. The sense of euphoria that makes you call your girlfriend and say " Girl, I just got my break thru. You unconciously got your shopping breakthru. So we call this Break Thru Tuesdays.

First, let's have some girl talk, I must admit one of my flaws....I don't keep with the manicure appointments. I looked at my cuticles one morning and said this is outright ridiculous. Then someone else mentioned it and made the call for me. I had a 12:00 appointment for a mani & pedi with "The Nail Diva" the NEXT day. Since it's summer I decided to browse through O.P.I.'s nail collection and got my BREAK THRU.

I am a huge fan of O.P.I. polish simply because they have the best marketing in the world and the colors are hot. Who comes up with those names? Ele-phantistic pink...Strawberry Margarita, Lincoln Park After Dark...Did someone say Party!!

I had so much fun trying on all the colors that I must share this too.... Click on the link, select you skin tone and try on all of the colors in the OPI Studio. http://www.opi.com/opi/opistudio.aspx

My 2 Fav Shades from the India Collection: Color Nirvana Spring/Summer 08
Ele-phantastic Pink

Curry Up & Don't Be Late

This week's BREAK THRU......

High Society wants to give you your BREAK THRU so "The Nail Diva" has offered to give all of you High Society IT Girls a lovely special...$30 spa mani and pedi... Mention High Society when booking a nail appointment.

Fit & Fab | Real Talk

Some of you may be in a real slump...I know it does get hard sometimes but "you can't quit cause then you would be a quitter" Shout out to Kimora. Today's Fit & Fab is motivation to continue tackling that weight or new fitness challenge.

Michelyn: The first step to losing weight is to renew your mind (i.e., change the way you view food and physical activity). The weight loss process is all mental; if you don't have your mind ready you will not be able to achieve your ultimate weight loss goal. You must make this a top priority; a lot of us put weight loss on the back burner. When you have decided to make this process a top priority, then dedication and consistency must follow. You must also learn how to be your own motivation. Believe me prayer and/or meditation helps. This journey is not easy, so the only way to make it through is to push yourself daily. The spirit within you will help you to keep going and not give up.

My favorite quote for fitness is, "Fitness is a Journey, not a Destination. It must be continued for the Rest of your Life." -Dr. Kenneth Cooper

Always remember this should be a lifetime commitment not something to do for the time. Being healthy should be an important part of your life. Think about the most important thing in your life, something that you have to do everyday. If you didn't do this you would not feel right. For example, going to church, praying, and going to work; fitness and health should be an added feature to your life like the examples I have listed.

Chics keep your head up and remember you will look fabulous in the dress honey!!! Andrea Fenise
