Memphis is where I call home for NOW. It is The Birthplace of Rock & Roll. Home of Isaac Hayes. RIP. Home of Elvis. BBQ Heaven there is soooo much more. Memphis has such a rich cultural history that so many of us locals pass by all of the tourist attractions and seem to think the city has nothing to offer. Well this High Society Living feature in a tribute to music legend Isaac Hayes,
I would like to invite you to enjoy your city. This weekend take the time to learn something new and experience something new other than the same ole nightlife scene.
The Memphis Tourism Bureau's website http://www.memphistravel.com/ has a special place just for us locals. Enter the trivia contest to win a complete hometown tourist package or browse through the dining section to enjoy a nice meal in a local restaraunt. I have found during traveling visiting the local restaraunts you get an authentic feel of the food and culture in the city.
Some of my fav spots:
1. Memphis Zoo: Voted the #1 zoo in the country 1008
2. Slavehaven/Underground Railroad Museum: I didn't even know the museum existed until I moved downtown. It's such a unique experience.
3. Civil Rights Museum: Although it is one of the main attractions everyone should have visited by now some of us haven't. If you are one of those people you DEFINITELY must go.
4. Stax Museum of American Soul Music : Isaac Hayes home of recording. They actually have a special photography feature now of Ray Charles
5. Rendezvous: Memphis BBQ
